With over ten years experience of performing together, The Stingrays are one of the most polished and versatile bands in Scotland, with a repertoire which ranges from the swing of the Glen Miller era through rock and roll, sixties soul, ceilidh, the finest sounds of the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s all the way to current chart hits. In addition to the live band performance, The Stingrays also incorporate a digital state of the art disco to round off the evening’s entertainment. Rather than make any claims about the band’s quality and ability, we prefer to let our clients (and our music) do the talking for us....

Frequently Asked Questions

How far are you willing to travel?

We have played at venues all over Scotland, so distance is no object.

I am planning to have my wedding midweek. Would this be a problem?

Not at all - we are a full time professional band so we are available seven days a week.

Do you always follow a fixed performance routine?

Definitely not. We always approach each event with a great degree of flexibility - no two audiences are ever the same, so the music we play changes to suit the people we are playing for.

I would like some ceilidh music at my wedding, but some of the guests are from abroad and others from down south. How do you cope with this?

This is a situation we come across regularly. We always make a point of explaining all the dance moves before the music starts - this not only helps those who have never tried it before, it is also helpful for people who may need to have their memories refreshed. It is important that we can make the dancers relax and enjoy the experience - it should be fun, not a competition!

Will there be any hidden or additional costs, or any third party to become involved later?

No to both parts. The vast majority of work we do comes from personal recommendations, and we prefer to deal directly with the client who wishes to book us. This prevents any possibility of miscommunication or misunderstanding. Any quote given by us will include the fee for the band, the disco and travelling costs. We do not charge VAT.
Can we bring along a CD with a favourite song (or songs) that we would like to hear played on our wedding night?

Yes, we would be happy to oblige - it’s your wedding after all!
Do you have a dress code with the band? I’ve seen bands wearing T shirts and jeans or other casual clothing while performing.

We wear suits and ties at all functions as we feel that a smart appearance is vital for a band performing at a wedding.

What is the line up of the band, and which instruments do you use?

Dave plays alto and tenor sax, keyboards and guitar, along with vocals. Jim plays keyboards, guitar and bass, with vocals. Alex plays guitar and bass, with vocals.
Can we come to watch you at a nearby venue?

We perform only at weddings and private functions (we don’t play in social clubs or pubs which are open to the public) so naturally we would have to obtain the clients permission beforehand. This is usually not a problem.
It is unusual to see a band / disco combined unit. How do you run the evening and do you need more room than other bands for equipment?

We usually use the disco for the last hour of the evening. We started to use our own disco because we felt that many mobile discos use inferior quality amplification, which results in a sound that everyone finds painful. A further problem was the need to squeeze two sets of equipment into a confined space, which can sometimes lead to the necessity of having to move tables etc. We have solved this by using the same digital power amps and pro quality speakers for the band and disco; this reduces the amount of space required and means the whole evening can be run in a smoother and more professional manner, with flawless transitions between the different entertainment modes.
